ALL   The organization

The Academy for Lifetime Learning (ALL) of the Eastern Shore of Virginia is an all volunteer not for profit organization.  We are an organization of people from a variety of backgrounds.  We share a common interest in continuing learning experiences and intellectual stimulation.   ALL’s knowledge resources are the members themselves.  These are professionals and amateurs who for the most part have retired from their respective income producing professional activities, and who are willing to share their life acquisitions of knowledge or their current hobbies with others.  The beneficiaries, the students, again are the members themselves who are willing and eager to acquire new knowledge and skills, knowing that an active mind, very much like an active body keep on being healthy and limber.

Members are encouraged but not required to share their knowledge or skills by leading or presenting a course.  Teaching experience is not required.  The structure of the courses is informal and at the choosing of the instructor.  The venue for most classes is the Eastern Shore Community College (ESCC).  The college provides the classroom facilities.  Some classes may be conducted at outdoor locations or other facilities.

Membership

Become a member of ALL

Membership is open to adults of any age.  The membership dues for one year are $25.00.  This is not a course fee and there are no refunds.  The year starts in September and continues through August the next year.  Members are eligible to vote for the officers of the executive board of ALL at its annual membership meeting in the Spring.  The members present at that meeting constitute a quorum.  A member is entitled to enroll in any course, and any number of courses offered by ALL subject to class size limitations and with due regard for avoiding scheduling conflicts.  Members who have registered for a course are expected to attend all scheduled sessions for that course.   It is considered a required courtesy to inform the instructor if a session must be missed for any reason unless the instructor has explicitly waved that obligation.
